Bearl & Virginia Smalldridge

About The Inn Keepers

Virginia Smalldridge was born in Indiana.  Bearl Smalldridge was born in Newton Iowa but raised in Missouri.  They have spent many years in Southern California after an adventurous life as missionaries in West Africa.

Virginia is a retired school teacher and Bearl has many accomplishments in addition to teaching.

During the last 20 years we owned and operated a non-profit retreat/ranch in Southern California just outside of San Diego.  After the fires came through in Oct. 2003, our ranch was completely burned down.  Instead of rebuilding we decided to take on the challenge of the bed and breakfast.  We love entertaining and look forward to meeting you as you travel our way.  Bearl has many stories to share if you are interested and he has never met a person who wasn't soon a friend.

We have six children, two boys and four girls, all are grown and have children of their own.

Rachel & Rick Waterbury

About The Founders & Business Manager

Rick is originally from Eastern Iowa, but was raised, in Waukegan, Illinois.

Rachel was born in Liberia, Africa when her parents served as missionaries there but was raised in Pasadena California.

We met in Pasadena while we both attended L.I.F.E. Bible College in Los Angeles. We were married in 1987 and both graduated in 1988.

We moved to San Diego in 1989 and then relocated to Vinton Iowa in November, 1992. We bought our beautiful home in July, 1993 and opened the B&B in February of 1995 after many renovations were completed.

We have three daughters; Stephanie (1992), Caitlin (1995) and Audrey (2002).

Rachel was the General Manager for business and continued to operate the business for her parents until its recent closing.

The Waterbury family has recently relocated out of state.
